Pre-Planning Alignment

A 90-minute leadership session to ensure you don’t lose time, money, and momentum to misaligned plans.

This is for leadership teams entering a strategic planning cycle—or resetting priorities, budgets, or bets.

If neither is true, this probably isn’t the right tool. It doesn’t create alignment. It reveals whether alignment exists.

How a Pre-Planning Alignment Session Works
Leaders answer four questions independently. Each leader responds privately, without discussion, to surface their current strategic assumptions.
Responses are reviewed side-by-side. Answers are presented verbatim in a matrix so similarities and differences are immediately visible.
Leadership evaluates readiness to plan. The team determines whether planning will compound clarity or formalize conflict.
What the Session Produces
A single leadership decision. The session ends by choosing whether to proceed into planning, pause before planning, or proceed knowingly.
No objectives or priorities are set. This session does not define goals, initiatives, or roadmaps.
No planning takes place. The sole outcome is clarity about whether planning should begin.

Planning problems come from unexamined assumptions at the leadership-level.

If leadership isn’t properly aligned, planning locks in that conflict, tradeoffs become political, and execution slows down. The purpose of this session is to catch that before it’s expensive.

This session is most useful right before annual planning, quarterly planning, or major re-prioritization.

If planning has already started, this is likely too late.

What Happens After
You proceed with confidence. When alignment is present, planning moves forward with shared understanding and fewer hidden tradeoffs.
You recognize risk early. If there is misalignment, your team makes certain that it's visible before plans, budgets, and commitments are locked in.
A decision is made. Leadership either proceeds into planning with eyes open — or pauses to address misalignment before it becomes costly.

Planning is one of the most consequential things leadership teams do. Most teams rush into it with confidence they haven’t earned. Pre-Planning Alignment exists to slow that moment down—just enough.
